LA ESMERALDA SCHOOL COMPUTERS
Following discussion with the members of the Cooperative of La Esmeralda and the Board members of their local school on the school priorities, Bienestar funded the purchase of five computers for the school in 2020 which are powered by community-managed solar energy and internet.
In light of 2016 resolution by the United Nations that declared internet access a human right, we are delighted to support this important educational opportunity that will benefit all of the children.
ITZEL YOUTH FOLK DANCE TROUPEThis group has caught the imagination and engagement of an ever-increasing number of young people in the Cooperative of Nuevo Horizonte. Together children and youth learn from and support each other, participate in healthy physical and social activity, and come to value their culture, past and present.
The dance troupe is an integral part of the community-based tourism program in Nuevo Horizonte and the regional youth outreach to the department of the Peten, all of which clearly instills a real sense of pride and confidence in the youth and their community. Bienestar assisted with the purchase of costumes in 2019.
emergency Brain Surgery- full recovery
Pavel, a founding member of the cooperative is doing exceptionally well after undergoing emergency brain surgery for a traumatic intercranial hematoma. His health is good and he has no deficits, his humour is intact and his activities in the community are once more as extensive as ever. Your timely donations in tandem with others made medical costs of transfer, surgery, and postoperative recovery possible.
taqueria horizonte
Marleni and Erica, primary wage earners for their families opened a taqueria in Nuevo Horizonte with seed money from Bienestar for the fridge/freezer, critical in the tropics.
“We thank you for the help you gave us ... now we can store our natural fresh fruit and ice for smoothies, as well as the chicken and prepared vegetables. The fridge is a great help, we are grateful to all those who made this possible.”
